EPA announced a new effort to solicit ideas for Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEPs) to include in future settlement agreements. SEPs are voluntary projects that provide environmental and public health benefits beyond those required by law to communities impacted by environmental violations. SEPs provide on-the-ground health and environmental benefits to address harms caused by pollution. Under the new program, EPA is soliciting feedback from “from communities scarred by pollution about what projects best address the public health and environmental harms they have endured.” EPA will now accept ideas for SEPs via email at [email protected]. See EPA’s website for more guidance on how to submit SEPs ideas.
