EPA announced that it is expediting its review of four organophosphate pesticides that present significant risks to human health. While these four pesticides—diazinon, ethoprop, tribufos and phosmet—were not scheduled for regular review until 2025–26, EPA is accelerating the review to address health risks to those that mix, load and apply the pesticides as well as to the farmworkers who apply these pesticides, bystanders exposed to spray drift, and families in agricultural communities. The early assessments for the four pesticides was done with the intention to seek early mitigation prior to completing the standard registration process. EPA has released an updated exposure risk assessment for each pesticide, and plans to issue interim decisions in FY 2025 (tribufos) and FY 2026 (ethoprop, diazinon, and phosmet). Those decisions will include a full updated human health risk assessment on each pesticide, and public comment periods.
