EPA announced that it will shut down FOIAOnline at the end of September, an EPA-managed web portal that posts records obtained via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that should be made public. Started ten years ago, the portal has streamlined FOIA requests for many federal agencies. But as some agencies have stopped using the service, EPA reports that the upkeep costs of the web portal are too expensive to continue the program. While individual FOIA requests can still be submitted directly to agencies, there is a possibility that some government data and communications may be lost when the site is decommissioned.
