EPA finalized a rule reducing methane emissions and other air pollution from the oil and natural gas industry. The final rule includes New Source Performance Standards to reduce methane and smog-forming compounds from new, modified, and reconstructed sources. The final rule also sets out Emission Guidelines for states and they develop new plans to limit methane emissions. EPA expects the rule to produce health benefits for communities, including environmental justice communities. Learn more about EPA’s Methane Emissions Program.
