EPA announced that it will review the human health and environmental impacts of glyphosate or “Roundup”, a widely-used herbicide. As part of that review, the agency is withdrawing an interim decision issued under the Trump administration in response to litigation before the Ninth Circuit. In Feb. 2020, EPA published the Glyphosate Interim Registration Review Decision, but the publication did not identify any human health risks from exposure to glyphosate but did identify potential ecological risks. EPA says it is not changing its determination that “glyphosate is not likely to be carcinogenic to humans” but intends to better explain its evaluation and potentially expand its analysis to other human health factors. Users can continue to apply Roundup while EPA conducts its review.
