HUD’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) released a report finding that 31,500 of a total 200,000 mortgages provided by the FHA taxpayer-backed loans do not have proper flood insurance. The OIG’s report followed a report released two years ago finding that 73% of FHA-backed homes in North Carolina and Florida are in flood-prone areas. The FHA declined to respond to the OIG’s findings.
