The White House issued Executive Order 14260 calling for the U.S. Attorney General to identify state laws which burden domestic energy sources. The order prioritized identification of laws addressing climate change, environmental, social, and governance initiatives, environmental justice, carbon or greenhouse gas emissions, or carbon penalties or taxes. The order further directed the Attorney General to “stop the enforcement of State laws and continuation of civil actions…that the Attorney General determines to be illegal.” The Order specifically identified laws in New York, Vermont, and California.
