The Department of State released the U.S. National Adaptation and Resilience Planning Strategy, which set out a four part framework for climate adaptation in the United States. The four primary approaches involve: 1) periodic climate risk and vulnerability assessment; 2) planning and identification of adaptation options through an overarching national framework alongside federal agency adaptation plans; 3) implementation through adjustments to federal policies and programs and through provision of federal investments to enable adaptation actions; and 4) agency-specific efforts to track results and promote effective monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL). The Strategy built on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change guidelines.
