At the UN Assembly meeting for “Addressing the Existential Threats Posed by Sea-Level Rise”, the United States committed to support adaptation and resilience for vulnerable communities in response to sea level rise nationally and abroad. NOAA has implemented early warning systems in over 40 countries, primarily within the Pacific, Caribbean, and Africa. USAID worked with Madagascar to protect marine life and natural resources as a nature-based solution to adapting to sea-level rise impacts. The United States committed to protecting established maritime zones, as well as the statehood of low-lying island nations. The Navy has invested in 43 projects across the country in response to coastal flooding.
