USDA released plans for reforestation and climate adaptation. The plan called for the Forest Service to aim to eliminate its forestation backlog over the next 10 years and develop the infrastructure, such as nurseries, to keep up with increasing needs. Secy. Vilsack noted that the plans “represent a blueprint for … account[ing] for the risks [the] changing climate has on those groups most vulnerable to its effects – America’s farmers, ranchers, forest landowners and rural communities.”
