At the end of September, NOAA terminated a contract between the Alaska Earthquake Center and NOAA’s Tsunami Warning Center. The contract supported real-time data exchange as well as operations at nine seismic stations, some of which are in remote locations. The contract’s termination will likely lead to less timely and accurate tsunami warnings that could affect coastal communities, who are at higher risk, in Alaska, Hawai’i, and the West Coast.
