President Biden designated half a million acres of federal land in southern Nevada as the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument. The designation followed decades of advocacy by the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and other tribal nations to protect lands of deep spiritual, sacred, and historic significance, including the monument’s namesake, Avi Kwa Ame (Spirit Mountain).
