Proposed Rule

On Sept. 3, 2025 EPA withdrew a proposal to limit water pollution from meat and poultry processing facilities because it is no longer in line with “the Administration’s priorities.”

Background

On Jan. 23, 2o24 EPA proposed a rule to reduce water pollution from meat and poultry processing facilities. The proposal would utilize the latest pollution control technology to reduce the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and other pollutants to reduce nutrient pollution to nearby communities with environmental justice concerns and improve water quality downstream.
