EPA released a draft National Strategy to Prevent Plastic Pollution, proposing actions to reduce, reuse, collect, and capture plastic waste. The strategy will build upon EPA’s existing National Recycling Strategy. The strategy focused on three objectives to shift to a circular approach to plastic management: reduce pollution during the plastic production, improve post-use materials management, and prevent trash micro/nanoplastics from entering waterways and remove escaped trash from the environment. EPA is seeking comments on which actions are most important to address environmental justice, including reducing impacts from the production of plastic materials.
