Final Rule

On Feb. 18, 2026, EPA finalized its repeal of all greenhouse gas (GHG) emission standards for light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty vehicles after rescinding the Administrator’s 2009 endangerment finding. EPA concluded that section 202(a)(1) of the Clean Air Act does not authorize the Agency to set greenhouse gas emission standards in response to the dangers caused by climate change.  The Agency estimated it will save over $1.3 trillion. EPA did not estimate, however, the public health and environmental costs of deregulation. Track the Endangerment Finding on EELP’s Regulatory Tracker page.
