On Jan. 12, 2026, EPA realeased a regulatory impact analysis in conjunction with a final rule regulating New Source Performance Standards for Stationary Combustion Turbines. The new regulatory language stated that the EPA would no longer monetize public health benefits of reducing fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and ozone since “historically, the E.P.A.’s analytical practices often provided the public with false precision and confidence.” Long-term exposure to PM2.5 and ozone is linked to asthma, heart and lung disease, and premature death.
