EPA strengthened its risk evaluation for chemicals under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Risk evaluations under TSCA are used to determine whether a chemical poses an unreasonable risk to health or the environment. The new rule considers multiple exposure pathways to the same chemical, requires full consideration of risks to workers, and imposes a new requirement to explicitly consider overburdened communities when identifying potentially exposed and susceptible populations, and a broad range of adjustments to the procedures and scope evaluations. The rule went into effect on July 2, 2024.
