EPA announced a new proposed rule revoking all tolerances for chlorpyrifos, except for those tolerances associated with the 11 food and feed crops that remain registered.
Chlorpyrifos is an insecticide used in agriculture, but at high levels can result in neurological effects such as tremors, fatigue and nausea. EPA issued the proposed rule because of concern that exposure to pregnant women and children could impact normal nervous system development during pregnancy or childhood. The new proposed rule was published in the Federal Register, and is open for comment until Feb. 10, 2025.
