EPA released an Environmental Justice Toolkit for Lead Paint Enforcement Programs for federal, state, Tribal, and local government enforcement practitioners. The Toolkit provided examples and strategies to reduce or eliminate exposure to lead paint in housing at each stage of environmental enforcement and compliance. The Toolkit is a compilation of best practices to reduce lead locally with a focus on underserved communities, including how to develop partnerships and conduct community engagement to implement remedies that enhance environmental justice. Read EPA’s press release on the Toolkit.
In Oct. 2023, EPA also released a snapshot of enforcement actions taken nationwide to protect communities from hazardous lead paint.
The snapshot highlights actions taken by EPA through litigation, regional geographic initiatives, as well as the Toolkit.
