Proposed Rule

On Aug. 30, 2024, OSHA proposed a rule to protect workers from extreme heat. The rule would require employers to develop an injury and illness prevention plan to protect against excessive heat in workplaces, with special considerations for new or returning workers not accustomed to high heat conditions. OSHA issued the rule under its authority set out under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.  The agency held public hearings between June 16 and July 2, 2025. Submit comments on the OSHA extreme heat rule by Sept. 30, 2025.
