On Sept. 30, 2025, the Pacific Islands, Northeast, and South Central Climate Adaptation Science Centers suspended most operations after federal funding through the Department of the Interior (DOI) ended. Each center had submitted a proposal earlier in 2025 to renew five-year hosting agreements with the U.S. Geological Survey, but DOI and the Office of Management and Budget did not approve new cooperative agreements for FY25. As a result, the centers transitioned to minimal operations, pausing or reducing most research, education, and community engagement activities.
