Secretary Haaland launched the Indian Youth Service Corps (IYSC), including releasing the program’s guidelines, to provide education, employment and training opportunities for Indigenous youth through conservation projects on public and Indian lands and Hawaiian homelands. All projects on Indian lands will be managed collaboratively, including prior Tribal consultation. Congress authorized the creation of the IYSC in 2019, and the National Park Foundation committed $1 million to funding IYSC projects. The Indian Youth Service Corps is implemented by DOI, USDA, and the Department of Commerce.
