EPA published a proposed rule to protect workers and consumers from n-methylpyrrolidone (NMP), a solvent used widely in the manufacture and production of certain electronics, paints and coatings. EPA found that NMP presents an “unreasonable risk” of injury to health given its adverse effects, including fetal loss from short-term exposure and reduced fertility from long-term exposure. EPA proposed to bar the use of NMP in the manufacture, processing, and distribution in commerce and require greater worker protections NMP remains in use.
