On July 3, 2025, the EPA provided steel manufacturers a two year exemption from 2024 EPA air toxics rules, “in light of serious concerns that facilities will be unable to comply with the relevant requirements by the existing deadlines.” EPA estimated the compliance extension will save industry an estimated $3.5 million and result in approximately 120 tons of excess hazardous air pollutants from 2025 through 2027.
