FEMA released its 2022-2026 National Tribal Strategy identifying agency actions to address the agency’s responsibilities to federally recognized Tribal Nations and identify actions to build, enhance, and sustain its relationships with tribes. The Strategy had feedback from 135 representatives from 78 tribal nations. FEMA intended to be more proactive and deliberate when assisting tribes in climate resilience and preparedness efforts with the strategy as a strategic roadmap for doing so. Through the strategy, FEMA will initiate a national study on tribal emergency management capacity and capabilities, develop tribal-specific resources, and regularly convene with national and regional tribal liaisons.
