VIDEO: The Role of Third-party Monitoring Technology in Reducing Methane Emissions

Methane emissions account for roughly 16% of global greenhouse gas emissions and around 30% of the current rise in global temperature. The Inflation Reduction Act provides a new way to reduce methane emissions produced by the oil and gas industry through the Methane Emissions Reduction Program. The program establishes a waste emissions charge for methane and provides $1.36 billion in financial and technical assistance supporting a range of activities, including methane monitoring and technology development. In November, EELP Executive Director Carrie Jenks participated in the Environmental Law Institute’s GreenTech discussion on the role of third-party monitoring technology in reducing methane emissions in the United States.
