Ari Peskoe Urges New England Market Participants to Develop Regional Carbon Solution

Electricity Law Initiative Director Ari Peskoe spoke last week at the New England Power Pool Participants (NEPOOL) Committee meeting in Newport, Rhode Island. NEPOOL is a stakeholder organization that advises on all matters relating to New England’s competitive wholesale market rules and transmission tariff design.

In his remarks, Ari observed that in its nearly fifty year history NEPOOL had successfully led the industry through regionalization and restructuring and urged the group to tackle decarbonization. Absent a regional solution, states will pursue individual carbon and renewable energy policies that will threaten to fragment the market and undo the gains of regional cooperation.
