Jody Freeman recently participated in a webinar moderated by Susan Gray, S&P Global’s Head of Sustainable Finance Business and Innovation. The panel, part of S&P Global’s biweekly series, focused on ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) in the oil and gas sector. Among other observations, Freeman noted that “[W]hat we’re seeing is the industry seeing [ESG] as central to its task of figuring out how to run their businesses and I think that’s the product of the world changing around us, observing the impact of climate change, I think it’s because the pressure from the investment community that’s really driven this more in the United States than the government has. The federal government has been absent for the last certainly four years from this space, and I think it’s the investment community that’s really driving demand for more disclosure.”
